Know More About Kaziranga

Kaziranga — Where the Wild Calls Your Name

Spread across the vast floodplains of the mighty Brahmaputra River in the heart of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is one of the greatest wildlife destinations not just in India, but in the entire world. A proud UNESCO World Heritage Site, this extraordinary park covers an area of over 430 square kilometres of lush grasslands, dense forests, shimmering wetlands, and marshy swamps — all coming together to create one of the most diverse and thriving natural ecosystems anywhere on the planet. Kaziranga is most famous for being home to the largest population of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros in the world — a magnificent and ancient creature that once teetered on the edge of extinction and has been brought back through decades of dedicated conservation. But the park is far more than just rhinos. It is home to wild elephants, Royal Bengal tigers, wild water buffaloes, swamp deer, sloth bears, leopards, pythons, hoolock gibbons, and hundreds of species of birds including rare migratory visitors that arrive every winter from distant lands. Waking up before dawn, climbing onto the back of a gentle elephant, and moving silently through the tall elephant grass as the morning mist rises and a one-horned rhinoceros grazes just metres away — this is the kind of raw, unscripted wildlife experience that stays with you for the rest of your life. Kaziranga is not just a national park — it is a reminder of how beautiful and powerful nature truly is, and why it is worth protecting. With Ababli Tour, your Kaziranga safari adventure will be expertly planned, completely hassle-free, and absolutely unforgettable.

Top Experiences & Places in Kaziranga

  • Elephant Safari — The most iconic and deeply personal way to experience Kaziranga. You climb onto the back of a trained elephant in the early hours of the morning and move slowly and silently through the towering elephant grass and marshlands, getting within metres of one-horned rhinos, wild buffaloes, and deer in their most natural and undisturbed state. The elephant's height gives you a unique vantage point that no jeep can offer — and the feeling of being so close to these magnificent creatures in the wild is something that is impossible to put into words.
  • Jeep Safari — The most popular way to explore Kaziranga, covering more ground and offering the chance to spot a wider variety of wildlife including Bengal tigers, elephants, and large herds of swamp deer. Jeep safaris operate in the morning and afternoon from specific entry points and last approximately 2.5 hours per session. Booking in advance is strongly recommended as access to the park is limited to a fixed number of vehicles per session.
  • Kohora Range (Central Range) — The most visited and most wildlife-rich zone in the park, located near the main town of Kohora. This range is particularly famous for rhino sightings, wild elephants, and beautiful landscapes. It also has the best tourist facilities and is the most convenient entry point for most visitors.
  • Bagori Range (Western Range) — Known for its vast open grasslands and excellent rhino sightings, the Bagori Range is the second most popular zone and is a favourite among photographers for its open landscapes and the beautiful sight of elephants bathing in the Diphlu River nearby.
  • Agoratoli Range (Eastern Range) — A quieter, more off-the-beaten-path zone that is a birdwatcher's absolute paradise. This range is home to a remarkable variety of bird species including the Greater Adjutant Stork, and its large Sohola Lake — formed after a powerful earthquake — attracts enormous numbers of migratory birds during the winter months. A wonderful choice for those who prefer wildlife experiences away from the crowds.
  • Burapahar Range (Western Hills Range) — The most remote and least visited zone in Kaziranga, offering a very different landscape of dense forests and hills. This range is particularly rich in bird species and is known for sightings of great hornbills, Hoolock gibbons, and large Indian squirrels. Perfect for those who want a truly peaceful and intimate jungle experience far from other tourists.
  • Brahmaputra River Boat Safari — A wonderful and unique experience that takes you out onto the broad and majestic Brahmaputra River by boat, where you can spot rare Gangetic river dolphins, migratory birds, and enjoy the beautiful sight of the sun setting over one of India's greatest rivers. A peaceful and completely different kind of wildlife experience that perfectly complements the land safaris in the park.
  • Majuli Island — About 150 km from Kaziranga lies Majuli — the world's largest river island and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its own right. This extraordinary island sitting in the middle of the Brahmaputra is the cultural heart of Assam, home to ancient Neo-Vaishnavite monasteries called Satras, traditional mask-making workshops, and a unique way of life that has been preserved for centuries. A deeply enriching cultural day trip from Kaziranga.
  • Panbari Reserve Forest — A beautiful reserve forest on the edge of Kaziranga, famous for being one of the best birdwatching spots in all of Assam. Home to an exceptional variety of bird species and rich biodiversity, Panbari is a wonderful addition to any Kaziranga itinerary for nature lovers and birdwatching enthusiasts.

Best Time to Visit Kaziranga

  • November to February (Peak Season) — The very best time to visit. The weather is cool and perfectly pleasant, the tall grass has been cut back making wildlife much easier to spot, and animals gather around water sources in large numbers. This is when rhino, tiger, and elephant sightings are most frequent. Book well in advance as this is the busiest time of year.
  • March to April (Shoulder Season) — An excellent time to visit with fewer crowds than peak season, good wildlife sightings, and comfortable daytime temperatures. The park is quieter and more peaceful during these months, making for a more personal and relaxed safari experience.
  • May to October (Monsoon — Park Closed) — Kaziranga receives extremely heavy monsoon rainfall during these months and the park is officially closed to all visitors from around mid-April to October due to flooding. All safari activities are suspended during this period.

Quick Travel Tips

  • Always book your safari — especially the elephant safari — well in advance, particularly during the peak season from November to February, as slots fill up extremely fast
  • Wear earthy, muted colours like green, brown, and khaki during safaris — avoid bright and flashy clothing that can disturb or startle the wildlife
  • Carry binoculars for the best wildlife viewing experience, especially for spotting birds and distant animals across the open grasslands
  • Jeep safaris operate from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily — morning safaris offer the best light and the highest chance of wildlife sightings when animals are most active
  • Maintain complete silence during safaris and never make sudden movements — respecting the animals and their space is essential for everyone's safety and enjoyment
  • Try traditional Assamese food during your stay — dishes like Assamese thali, fish curry, bamboo shoot delicacies, and the local pitha rice cakes are absolutely delicious and not to be missed
